This is our new little fountain. It was inspired by Crown Fountain, in Chicago. What we love most about Crown Fountain is probably it's least flashy feature. The fountain actually occupies a huge portion of the plaza. The surface is constantly covered with a fraction of an inch of water, which falls down through to the pool below, to be recirculated. After walking around on it, we decided that there must be a huge pool beneath and the deck must be supported on a grid. So, we employed this design in a small fountain for our yard. I really love the outcome. The pump lives in a deep pool beneath the stones and the water makes a delighful gurgling sound as it works it's way back down. Unlike a traditional bird bath, the water is always cool and clear. I haven't yet seen a bird in it. But, I am sure it is going to be a big hit. Of course, this is another opportunity to plant flowers. I am thinking it is going to be surrounded by creeping phlox. I am sure a garden will work it's way out from there.
In other yard news: The bluebirds now have three eggs in their nest. She is incubating the eggs while he sits on a wire nearby and watches. Their tactic this time is very different. They are being much more low key. Hopefully, it all works out, this time.We have a fabulous watermelon colored poppy in with the scarlet ones. The clematis is going bonkers, the iris are doing even better than I'd dared to hope for and we are about to see the echinacea that was planted last year bloom for the first time.
We haven't seen our skunk, lately. But, we are seeing evidence that (s)he is still around. I kind of miss the inconvenienced, reluctant waddle under the bus when I come home at night.
On a sad note, a huge fox snake was found dead in the road, yesterday. I hadn't seen our giant buddy yet this year and was getting concerned. I am very sad at the passing of my shy yard companion and mouser extraordinaire.
