Baby Wrens!

After the baby bluebirds flew the coop (they didn't really, they were on the ground for a couple of days and we have no idea what happened after that), Eric began watching a wren nest. She had built in this funny birdhouse Eric had made from some sort of silly storage box that looked like a "country" version of a Victorian townhouse. Anyway, she laid a clutch of tiny eggs and Eric began checking on them, everyday. When they hatched out, we were amazed by how tiny they were. The babies left the nest, today. They are around in the grass in the back yard. Eric posed for a few photos with one of them.

I also managed to get a photo of a calla lily before the Japanese beetles devoured it.

More photos are here.

Reminds me of the baby hawks we watched in Michigan last summer. My dad says that the wrens in his backyard build decoy nests in any available spot to keep other birds from overcrowding the neighborhood.

The hawks were awesome. Did you get any good photos?

Decoy nests are too funny! I had no idea that they would try to occupy so much space. They are really aggressive little guys.

Just a week ago, a wren landed on my shoulder! I kid you not. It landed, we looked at each other in shock, then it flew off terrified! LOL!
